Description: The Park Inventory layer was created from the consolidation of two separate layers – Parkland and Parkland Acquisitions. The merge was performed to improve accuracy and maintenance strategy. The Parkland layer was later separated into Park Inventory layer and Open Space layer. Below is the creation method for Park Inventory. The Department of Parks, Rec and Culture's park inventory, Burnaby-owned lands, and the council adopted Official Community Plan (OCP) established the basis for identifying existing parks. Creation of the Parklands Acquisition: Planning Assistant gathered information from council reports. Information on parks to be acquired was entered into INFOFILE. Engineering Department drew from INFOFILE tables to create initial Parkland Acquisitions layer. Maintenance of the Park Inventory: Planning Assistant gathers information from land titles, council reports and aerial photos with direction from Senior Long Range Planner. Planning Asst. creates a spreadsheet for each officially adopted parks with area calculations. Planning Asst. informs GIS Planning Asst. about any park inventory creations, modifications or deletions. GIS Planning Asst. makes changes to Park Inventory layer. GIS Planning Asst. checks new or modified parks with spreadsheet to confirm accuracy before posting up to SDE. Planning Asst. checks new or modified parks using Burnaby’s web map to ensure accuracy.
